How to Sow and Plant

Soak seeds in warm water for 8–12 hours before sowing to improve germination.
Sow seeds about 0.6 cm (¼ inch) deep in moist, well-drained garden soil or seed mix.
Maintain soil moisture (but avoid waterlogging) until seedlings germinate — typically 14–28 days under 18–24 °C.
After seedlings emerge and have a few real leaves, transplant or thin to final spacing outdoors (especially after frost).

How to Grow

Light: Full sun to partial shade (tolerates both, though thrives in partial shade to shade under trees).
Soil: Well-drained, moderately fertile soils; tolerates a range of soil types, slightly acidic to neutral.
Water: Moderate watering — keep soil moist during establishment; once mature, plant is drought-tolerant but prefers occasional moisture.
Maintenance: Low — prune or trim to control spread if required; occasional mulching helps retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.

Tips

Space plants 8–12 inches (20–30 cm) apart — Vinca spreads fast by runners, so close spacing helps form a thick carpet.
Ideal for slopes, borders, under shrubs or along paths where you want low-maintenance evergreen ground-cover.
In hot climates or full sun, ensure regular watering until plants are established.
To prevent unchecked spread, trim runners periodically or plant within edging/borders.

Perennial

Vinca Minor (also called dwarf periwinkle or common periwinkle) is a hardy, evergreen ground-cover plant native to Europe. It’s widely used in landscaping for its ability to form dense, low-growing mats that suppress weeds, control soil erosion, and add lush greenery throughout much of the year. With glossy foliage and occasional violet-blue flowers in spring, Vinca Minor thrives in sun or part shade and adapts to a variety of soils. Once established, it demands little care and remains attractive year-round — ideal for borders, slopes, shaded gardens, rockeries or under-trees.
